Description:

DNS are providing an opportunity for you to do training in medication awareness, epilepsy and buccal. Completing this training will ensure that you have achieved the necessary training to work in a wider variety of supported living placements.

Around one in every four people with epilepsy has learning disabilities. Around half of all people with learning disabilities has epilepsy.

In some people, epilepsy and learning disabilities can both be part of a syndrome.

With more and more companies requesting staff with training in medication, epilepsy and buccal, it would be your clear advantage to have you attend.

Once you have registered for the course, just complete the online epilepsy training before attending which will be send to you by DNS via Social care TV.  This will ensure that you get the maximum benefit out of the course on the day.

Medication

This  medication awareness course is designed for new members or as a refresher to all HCSW. Training focuses on the importance of recording and reporting the administration of medicines and also covers other ways in which the risk of errors can be reduced. Delegates will learn about different types of medication and how they are administered and disposed of correctly. This course ensures that delegates are fully prepared with regards to theory and be able to complete a medication booklet through working alongside competent medication Trained  staff in homes that they work in, when doing any training in homes with regards to booklet, staff need to ensure that they are signed off by the Manager or Senior that is shadowing your training.

  • Disposal of medication.
  • Errors.
  • Causes and effects.
  • Medication Practical booklet will be issued at training session.

Buccal Training covers:

  •  To Develop an understanding of Buccal Midazolam
  • What Buccal Midazolam is and how it works
  • When Buccal Midazolam is used in epilepsy
  • The emergency action plan for epilepsy
  • Demonstrate and describe the correct procedure for the safe and effective administration of Buccal Midazolam
  • To recognise potential difficulties
